Our learning this half term

In our English lessons we love to enjoy lots of really interesting books and we love to write creative and ambitious pieces to share with our friends and teachers.

Some of the books we will be doing this half term are The Secret Sky Garden by Linda Sarah, Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs and The Hodgeheg by Dick King-Smith. Here is a reading of Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs to enjoy.

Reception handwritingHandwriting is done everyday at West Wycombe, using a programme called Letterjoin. Please ask if you do not have a login to practice at home.

In maths we follow a programme called Can Do Maths Club. Please have a look at the website to find out more. Can do maths club.

Our topics this term will be the properties of 3D shapes, number bonds for numbers 11-16, measuring length and addition and subtraction within 20.

Please use lots of counting songs at home to help children learn. There are many wonderful ones out there, but BBC Schools Radio has a collection of nursery rhymes which are an excellent start.

At West Wycombe, we follow a programme for Phonics called Little Wandle. It is a highly structured programme based on synthetic phonics and guided reading sessions. We teach phonics everyday at 10am for 30 minutes. The children are taught in class groups and those needing extra support are given extra sessions in the school day. Please have a look at the Little Wandle website here for more information.
