Year 1 and 2

Welcome to Year 1 and Year 2

Our teachers

 

We are Mrs Webb, Mrs Dobbs and Mrs Charts and we are delighted to teach the children in Year 1 and Year 2 class in the 2022/23 academic year at West Wycombe School. 

Mrs Webb will be teaching every morning and on Thursday and Friday afternoons. Mrs Charts will be co-teaching in the mornings and also teaching the class on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.

Mrs Dobbs will support children in both classes full time, every day. 

Mr Rowley will teach us PE on Wednesdays.

What are we learning in the Summer 1 half-term?

 

English: The core text for the Summer 1 half-term is Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. We will retell the story and focus on identifying nouns, adjectives and verbs. We will use our toolkits to describe a fantasy setting with scary elements.  We are a talk for writing school! 

 

Maths: In Maths we will focus on Multiplication and Division for Year 1 and Fractions for Year 2. We use White Rose Maths to teach children how to count in 2s,5s, and 10s / a half, a third, a quarter and explore their reasoning skills. 

 

Science: We are learning about plants (parts of a plant, germination, pollination and conditions for growth). 

 

Humanities: Our History and Geography topic for this half-term is Castles. 

 

Music: We will continue to use Charanga scheme of work to teach children how to explore rhythm, pulse and how a variety of instruments are played. The name of this unit is Your Imagination

 

RE: We are learning about Ramadan and Eid this half-term. We are so excited to celebrate Eid together on the 24/4/23! 

 

PSHE: We will focus on Economic Wellbeing this half-term and understand the differences between want and need and how to budget.

PE Information

 

Year 1/2 have PE on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please remember to send your child to school in their PE kit so that you are ready for the lesson. Long hair must be tied back, earrings taped and any other additional jewelry removed to avoid accidents.

 

PE Kit: 

 

black tracksuit - plain (no brands showing, no stripes, no print)
black shadow stripe shorts
red round-neck t-shirt
black plimsolls or black trainers (no lights, no logos or prints) 

Nail varnish is not permitted
Plain studded earrings must be taped

long hair must be tied back
 

Homework

 

Reading - the books go home on Fridays and must be handed back on Wednesdays. 

Your child will either take home 2 Reading for Pleasure books or 1 Little Wandle Big Cat Collins book and 1 Reading for Pleasure book. 

 

Homework will be sent home in the half-terms, Sumdog is available to practice Maths skills.
