Equalities

At West Wycombe School, we are committed to equality of opportunity and to creating an environment where every child and adult is valued, respected and able to thrive. We want all members of our community to feel a strong sense of belonging.

Our legal duties

We fulfil our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010, which protects individuals from discrimination and sets out the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED). This duty requires schools to:

  • eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  • advance equality of opportunity for all
  • foster good relations between different groups

Our equalities work is built directly upon these principles.

A Shared Equalities Framework

As part of a multi‑academy trust, our school works within a trust-wide equalities framework. This includes a set of strategic equality objectives that guide and strengthen our approach across all schools. This framework promotes consistency, ambition and high standards in how we champion fairness, inclusion and equal opportunities.

You can find more information in the trust’s Equalities Policy on the trust website.

Our School’s Bespoke Equality Objectives

While the trust provides the overarching structure, each school – including ours – develops its own bespoke equality objectives. These reflect:

  • the unique context and needs of our school
  • the lived experience of our pupils and families
  • the priorities identified through our curriculum, behaviour, wellbeing and community engagement work

Our Equality Objectives for the year 2023-2026 are:

  1. By July 2026, to ensure that the attainment of EAL pupils in Phonics and Early Reading at the end of EYFS and KS1 is in line with National for this group.
  2. By July 2026, to ensure that the attainment of pupils with Special Education Needs and/or disabilities (SEND) at the end of EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 in Reading and Mathematics is in line with the National for this group.
  3. By July 2026, to have improved the outcomes for Disadvantaged Pupils in reading, writing and mathematics so that they are aligned with the outcomes for Disadvantaged Pupils nationally and closer to National All Other data.
  4. To continue to educate pupils and staff, and to have clear systems and processes in place to actively stand up to prejudice and stereotypes though a variety of approaches.

Monitoring and Reporting

We monitor our progress throughout the year and publish an Annual Equality Progress Report, which summarises the impact of our work and outlines next steps. A link to the latest report will be available on this page each year,

This process ensures our approach remains effective, transparent and responsive to the needs of our pupils and community.
