Medical and Well Being

Illness and First Aid at school

Any adult caring for your child is expected to act in a reasonable, responsible manner to ensure that your child is safe. Most staff at school have had First Aid training and in the use of Epi pens.

First aid materials are kept centrally and a record is kept of any minor cuts and grazes.  On occasions, we may need to contact you if we feel your child needs to go home before the end of the day.

If your child is taken ill during the day, we will care for them until you are able to collect them.

If we feel that they need to go to hospital, we will contact you to take them to hospital or arrange to meet you there.

All staff have training in First Aid but our designated Medical Team is Emma Simpson and Ed Tang.

Individual Health Care Plans

Children that have ongoing medical needs require an individual health care plan (IHCP) completed by a parent/carer for each new academic year. Your child’s health care plan is reviewed annually or earlier if the child’s needs change. Individual Health Care Plans are developed in partnership between the school, parents, pupils and relevant healthcare professional(s) who can advise on a child's case. The aim is to ensure that, as a school, we know how to support each child effectively and provide clarity about what needs to be done, when and by whom.

Please complete one online form per medical need: https://forms.office.com/e/0063hkNefN

You only need to fill this in if your child has a medical diagnosis.

Administering Medicines

Parental agreement is required for West Wycombe Combined School to administer medicine. The school will not give your child medicine unless you complete and sign this form providing consent: https://forms.office.com/e/SHZeedG9vf

Please note that a separate form for each medication should be completed. As parents and carers, it is your responsibility to ensure correct medicines that have not passed their expiry date are provided to us.

Once the form is completed, please hand the medication to a member of staff at in the school office. Your child's full name and date of birth should be clearly written on the bottle/packet and it should be placed in a clear bag, also marked with your child's name.

Please make a note of the expiry date of any medication held at school and keep us supplied with medication that is in date, ensuring you collect soon-to-expire medication in good time.
